2. Keyjuan Brown excels in backup duty for banged up Watson and Brown
Unexpected news fell before the game as typical starting running backs Isaac Brown and Duke Watson were both noted to have limited action during the game today. This opened the door for sophomore Keyjuan Brown to be the featured back and take the majority of the snaps for the offense. Brown stepped up to the plate and gave a solid performance, posting 83 yards on 11 carries and 2 touchdowns.
Brown’s performance reiterated something that Louisville coaches and fans already knew: the running back position is arguably the deepest it's ever been. Any one of these three running backs can be the focal point on a given day and give the needed production for the offense. The running back group has been the one consistency of the offense through the first three games, even though the offensive line has not necessarily played up to its perceived ability. This trend of high running efficiency will be relied on as the season progresses and as the opponents grow increasingly more difficult.
