5. Defense continues to shine
The strength of this Louisville team continues to be the strength, as the defense provided for another dominating performance. Besides a long touchdown run in the 4th quarter, the Cardinal defense held the Bowling Green offense to minimal production, only allowing 3 points through the first 3 quarters.
The defensive line looked great with Clev Lubin repeatedly being a disruptor and continues to be a star in the making—the linebacking corps and secondary provided lockdown coverage, which included 2 interceptions and winning the turnover battle. The injury to Stanquan Clark was a harsh reality for the Cardinals earlier this week. However, it appears others, including linebacker Antonio Watts, are stepping up to fill the void and ensure the middle and back of the defense know their role and do their job.
The opponents for the Cardinals have been far from the best they will see as the season progresses. However, their production has been a welcome surprise for the team and will be leaned on to provide the key stops in important, season-defining moments. The practice games are now done, on to ACC play and the meat of the schedule.
