5. Pete Nygra, C
Perhaps the most disappointing position group so far this season has been the offensive line. The offensive line has given up 13 sacks through 5 games (2.6 sacks per game), and the rushing attack is only averaging 3.8 yards per rushing attempt behind the line’s blocking efforts. The position group has also been a consistent culprit of costly penalties in key situations or after big plays that have stalled drives or swung momentum out of Louisville’s favor.
Addressing these issues begins with the senior leader of the offensive line, preseason Rimington Trophy watchlist recipient Pete Nygra. Nygra needs to step up and assert his leadership by increasing communication on the line and keeping others focused on the task at hand in the game. The running game and the offense need the line to elevate their play and production if the Louisville offense expects to score hand in hand with the Miami offense. Cardinals fans will see if the bye week was used effectively to address these lingering issues that have been present early in the season.
