5. Miller Moss’s downfield passing is a huge issue

Pittsburgh posed the first true test for Miller Moss and the passing offense this season. Unfortunately, this matchup may have exposed a weakness of the Louisville offense moving forward. The downfield passing game missed opportunity after opportunity that were presented through holes in the Pitt defense. Miller Moss seemed to have time to make the read and deliver the needed throws, however, time and time again, the accuracy needed was just simply not there.

Sure, Louisville was able to have a connection here and there throughout the game, which included a strike from Moss to wide receiver Chris Bell for a touchdown in the 2nd quarter. However, the downfield passing (or lack thereof) was a consistent key to the offense throughout the game. It highlights a further issue with Louisville. Miller Moss can’t go and win the game for you. He can do little things here and there to manage the offense, but he isn’t the home run threat that most hoped he would be entering the season.

There is still a long way to go in the season, but this is a key aspect of the offense that needs to be addressed or curbed by improving other key components of the offense. Moss did continue to improve as the game progressed, but this game did little to give confidence to the Louisville fan base that Miller Moss can be the weapon Jeff Brohm needs for a highly successful offense.
