Louisville basketball learned earlier Thursday that the Cardinals are one step closer to landing one of the top prospects in the 2027 recruiting class. Louisville is making a lot of noise in the 2027 class, as Pat Kelsey has the program absolutely buzzing right now with recruiting.
Five-star power forward CJ Rosser cut his list down to just seven schools after earning over 26 offers, and the Cardinals are one of them. Louisville is now in a fierce recruiting battle for the unanimous 5-star as they compete with multiple rivals, including Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina, Miami, and North Carolina State, as well as USC and Arkansas.
Now, as Louisville looks to gain momentum with the 5-star, the Cardinals will have some catching up to do, as Rivals and On3 Sports college basketball insider Jamie Shaw makes it clear there is one ACC team emerging as a frontrunner.
Louisville basketball has to catch up to North Carolina for CJ Rosser
When looking at the seven finalists for Rosser, fans quickly notice four of them are ACC schools. However, one powerhouse program is out in front, as North Carolina appears to be leading early for Rosser.
Rivals' prediction percentage gives UNC the best odds as of Thursday, as the Tar Heels have a 22.2 percent chance of landing the North Carolina native. Behind Michael Malone and UNC is their in-state rival, the North Carolina State Wolfpack, with a 15.7 percent chance of earning his commitment. After two in-state schools, two more rivals are in the mix, as Kentucky has a 13.4 percent chance and Louisville is right behind at 11.2 percent.
Shaw also favors the Tar Heels in the middle of September, as he recently called his shot and predicted UNC to land Rosser with a “medium” level of confidence.
"UNC is the school I am hearing about the most with the Rocky Mount, N.C., native," stated Shaw on Rosser.
UNC has landed multiple unofficial visits from Rosser and will get the first official visit from the 5-star this weekend. The home state is trending as the team to beat, but there is still plenty of time for the Cardinals to catch up.
Louisville hosted Rosser for an unofficial visit this past spring for the SMU game, and now they learned from this update that they will host him on October 22. The Cardinals got the last visit with Rosser, which could be good, as Kelsey has some magic when a recruit comes on campus.
Rosser ranks as high as No. 1 overall in the 2027 recruiting class, as a unanimous 5-star, and the consensus No. 1 power forward. The 2027 recruiting class is beginning to really heat up, and Louisville fans have a lot to be excited about, including Rosser. Kelsey has the Cardinals in the final seven, but now he has to catch up to the ACC giant, North Carolina.
