Louisville basketball gets major recruiting update from No. 1 recruit CJ Rosser

Louisville basketball gets a major update from the nation’s top recruit, CJ Rosser. The Cardinals have been trending with multiple 5-stars this offseason, as Pat Kelsey has this program buzzing in the recruiting world.

Louisville has already hosted multiple 5-stars for official visits, including King Gibson, DeMarcus Henry, and Reese Alston, and has landed on all three and more updated recruiting lists. Well, the Cardinals just landed on another 5-star updated recruiting list, as Rosser just cut his list down to seven schools, putting Louisville in a heated recruiting battle for the nation’s No. 1 overall recruit.

Also making the cut in Rosser’s huge update, and who Louisville is now battling for the elite forward, are Kentucky, Duke, USC, Arkansas, North Carolina, Miami, and North Carolina State.

Louisville basketball lands in final seven for No. 1 overall recruit

The Cardinals have been highly competitive in the recruiting process for Rosser, earning an official visit last season. Kelsey brought Rosser to campus for a game against SMU, but his trip didn’t stop there; he then went to Lexington and also took an unofficial visit to Kentucky.

Now, the two in-state rivals moved on to the next step in Rosser’s recruiting process, but will also battle some giants in UNC, Duke, Miami, NC State, Arkansas, and USC.

Rosser is the unanimous No. 1 power forward in the 2027 recruiting class and is a consensus top-three overall recruit in the nation. He ranks as high as No. 1 overall by On3 Sports, and the 6-foot-10 power forward from Southeastern Prep is an elite two-way big.

On top of the Cardinals landing inside Rosser’s final seven, they also got major news for an upcoming official visit. Rosser recently visited North Carolina and will now visit the Wolfpack next. Following NC State, he will visit Miami on September 25, Arkansas on September 28, Kentucky on October 1, USC on October 4, and will end with Louisville on October 22.

The consensus 5-star power forward earned over 26 offers and from major programs that didn’t make his final seven, like Kansas, Alabama, Auburn, BYU, Villanova, and others. Rosser was a teammate of the Cardinals' 5-star freshman Obinna Ekezie Jr., and now Kelsey is trying to bring the two back together at Louisville.

Rosser averaged 16.6 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game during Nike’s 17U EYBL Circuit, as well as averaged 16.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game while shooting 46 percent from the field and 33 percent from beyond the arc in his junior season with Southeastern Prep.

Louisville is in the mix for the nation’s No. 1 overall recruit for the second straight year, and now Kelsey is hoping he can have better luck with Rosser than he did with Tyran Stokes.
