Pat Kelsey continues to dominate the Transfer Portal. Recently, the Cardinals landed North Carolina transfer Seth Trimble, following the “five-for-five” rule, which granted class-of-2022 seniors another year of eligibility.
Rumors surfaced on Tuesday that the Cardinals were pursuing the UNC star, and early Wednesday morning, around 5 a.m., Louisville fans learned that Trimble had officially committed to the Cardinals. Now, this team's backcourt is loaded with talent, as Trimble joins Jackson Shelstad, Adrian Wooley, London Johnson, and De'Shayne Montgomery.
With Louisville adding Trimble, CBS Sports college basketball reporters Isaac Trotter and Cameron Salerno graded the Cardinals' pickup of the UNC star, and they made clear what he brings to the Cardinals this upcoming season.
Seth Trimble is going to be a key defender for the Cardinals
Louisville struggled this past season with physicality against the elite teams. However, they picked up key pieces to address that area in their frontcourt, and now Trotter makes it clear that Trimble is a huge pickup for the Cardinals to address the physicality in the backcourt.
"This is all about fortifying Louisville's defense. With Trimble in tow, Louisville has an elite point-of-attack defender to pair with big man Flory Bidunga, who will be on the short list for National Defensive Player of the Year. Trimble is an excellent athlete who can take the toughest assignments every single night. When Louisville plays Duke, Trimble will guard John Blackwell. Trotter makes it clear that Trimble has some work to do on offense, but that isn’t where he is going to shine with the Cardinals. He isn’t a high-volume 3-point shooter, but he is a physical guard who flourishes in transition. Trotter states that Trimble’s defense will impact the game, and that is why Louisville gets a B+ for this pickup.
“Trimble won't be a star, but he can impact winning with his defense, rim pressure, turbo transition scoring, and knack for getting to the foul line,” stated Trotter
The Cardinals roster is loaded with talent, and Kelsey addressed major weaknesses from the past season. Trimble is coming off his best season, where he averaged 14.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 47 percent from the field.
Trimbles is going to be a key piece for Kelsey and Louisville this upcoming season, as his defense will give Louisville the physicality it needs when the Cardinals play Duke, Michigan, Texas, and others. Louisville has the 7th-highest odds of winning the National Title, and with the amount of money it has spent on this roster, it is time for Louisville to win.
