The college football season isn’t as far as some may think! August is just around the corner, which means Louisville football is quickly approaching for the Cardinals fans, and the city of Louisville is buzzing.
The Cardinals have a massive Week 1 game in Tennessee, as they take on the Ole Miss Rebels in a thrilling opening game. This is by far the Cardinals' hardest Week 1 game under Jeff Brohm, as Ole Miss is coming off a 13-win season and a CFP semifinal appearance.
Louisville continues to be this under-the-radar team, but ESPN’s Rece Davis just sent a strong warning to Ole Miss and the rest of the nation that this isn’t going to be an easy game.
Louisville football earns major respect ahead of Ole Miss showdown
Since Brohm arrived at Louisville, he has shown he can win these big-time games. Under Brohm, the Cardinals have upset Notre Dame, Clemson and Miami, and now the giant killer has his eyes on Ole Miss for this huge Week 1 showdown.
Louisville vs. Ole Miss is one of the better opening games this year, and while Davis predicts the Cardinals to lose to the Rebels, he warns Ole Miss that this is a game the Cardinals are going to be ready for.
“Ole Miss wins, but people are going to be a little bit rattled about Ole Miss long-term, because Louisville will have a shot to win,” stated Davis. “They got Lincoln Kienholz now, the Ohio State transfer; they got great running backs. It is not those games that vex Louisville. Louisville will be ready for that game.”
As of right now, Ole Miss is a 6.5-point favorite. The Rebels have their star quarterback Trinidad Chambliss returning for his final year after he had a dominant season with Ole Miss and led them to the most wins in program history, a win over Georgia in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals, and punched their ticket to the CFP semifinals.
Now, Louisville will have the first chance to make a statement and to shock Ole Miss, and if anyone is to do it, it would be Jeff Brohm. He has emerged as a giant killer in college football, proving he can win these big-time games throughout his coaching career.
The college football analyst predicts the Rebels to win, but he also predicts Louisville will have a late chance to pull off the upset. Davis is clearly high on Louisville and makes it clear that college football and SEC fans are going to be shocked by the Cardinals.
Louisville and Ole Miss will kick off at the Liberty Mutual Music City Kickoff inside Nissan Stadium at 7:30 p.m. ET.
