Louisville basketball is taking on the Michigan State Spartans in just a few hours in the round of 32 of the NCAA Tournament. When Louisville fans look at the Spartans' roster, of course, Jeremy Fears Jr. and Jaxon Kohler will jump out, as they both nearly average a double-double, but one other name grabs Louisville fans' attention.
3 eye-popping stats that prove Louisville will pull off the upset over Michigan State
Kaleb Glenn is a Louisville native and played for the Cardinals during the 2023-24 season, after committing to the Cardinals as a 4-star recruit. However, after Louisville’s disastrous season, they hired Pat Kelsey, and the former Cardinal revealed he had never actually wanted to leave.
Kaleb Glenn admits he never wanted to leave the Cardinals
Glenn committed to Louisville in the 2023 class, where he was a unanimous 4-star recruit and ranked as high as No. 64 in the 2023 cycle, No. 14 among small forwards, and No. 2 out of Indiana. The 4-star recruit committed to the Cardinals over Indiana, South Carolina, Tennessee, Arizona State, and others after he averaged 15.2 points and 9.1 rebounds and shot 54 percent from the floor and 39 percent from the 3-point line his senior year of high school at the La Lumiere School.
Cardinals fans were excited to see the Louisville native in a red-and-black uniform and hoped he would be a big reason the program gets back to winning. However, after averaging just 3.9 points and 3.6 rebounds per game, and Louisville going 8-24 in his freshman season, Glenn revealed yesterday that he didn’t want to leave, but Kelsey wanted to "clear house," and so he entered the Transfer Portal.
"I for sure wanted to stay,” Glenn stated in a recent interview after Louisville hired Kelsey. “I'm from Louisville, and I didn't really want to leave, to be honest. So, I met with him, and he said he wanted to clear house. So I went elsewhere."
Glenn went on to transfer to FAU, where he took a huge leap in his sophomore season, averaging 12.6 points and 4.8 rebounds per game, shooting 53.1 percent from the field and 41 percent from downtown. He was Tom Izzo’s biggest addition this offseason from the Transfer Portal, as he ranked No. 81 in the portal and No. 15 among small forwards.
Glenn won’t play in this afternoon’s game as he suffered a torn patellar tendon back in June. The Cardinals and the Spartans will tip off this afternoon at 2:45 p.m. Louisville will try to beat Michigan State and move on to the Sweet Sixteen for the first time since 2015.
