Louisville football's former star wide receiver, Ja'Corey Brooks, continues to turn heads as the now Commanders wide receiver made his NFL debut in the preseason showdown against the New England Patriots on Friday night. Brooks is coming off an impressive camp where he quickly made a name for himself as one of the standout players of the week.

He then recently went viral for an insane one-handed catch over the shoulder in the corner of the endzone with a corner back draped all over him. Brooks now looked to transition this impressive camp into the preseason games, and he definitely put on a performance that raised eyebrows.

The 6-foot-3 200-pound wide receiver was one of the Commanders' top standout players in their first preseason game of the 2025 season. Brooks led the Commanders in both receiving yards and catches as the former Cardinals star finished the game with five receptions for 59 receiving yards.

Coming off a camp where he made a name for himself, Brooks is trying to go from undrafted to making Dan Quinn's 53-man roster. This first preseason performance was a step in the right direction as Brooks was targeted just five times and he made the most of it, catching all five and averaging 11.9 yards per catch.

Brooks led all receivers in the game with his 59 receiving yards. The former Cardinals star receiver will need to have this type of performance in every preseason game, as he is proving to the Commanders staff that they are in desperate need of wide receiver depth.

The Commanders' star receiver, Terry McLaurin, is currently sitting out, and on Friday night, Washington's lack of depth was severely exposed. Chris Moore struggled, and Brooks proved to the staff that he can be trusted and is worthy of a spot on the 53-man roster.

Brooks and the Commanders' next game isn't until Monday, August 18, at eight p.m. local time. It will be crucial for Brooks to carry this momentum into practice and camp over the next week and into their second preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
