The NBA Summer League is in full swing in the middle of July, and Louisville basketball is showing out at the moment. The Cardinals fans are enjoying multiple former Cards in the Summer League this offseason, including Mikel Brown Jr. and Ryan Conwell.

The two former Cardinals are taking off right now in the NBA Summer League, as Brown and Conwell are showing why they were worthy of their draft picks. Brown was the first of the two selected at No. 6 overall by the Brooklyn Nets, while Conwell went No. 37 overall to the Miami Heat.

Now, the two Cardinals have each stepped on the court this offseason with their new NBA team and are quickly turning heads and raising eyebrows.

Two former Louisville basketball stars are turning heads this summer

Conwell and Brown were Louisville’s top two leading scorers this past season, and this summer, they are not slowing down. Through the first 10 days of the Summer League, the two Cardinals stars are each in the top 10 in scoring among rookies, with Brown ranked No. 9 and Conwell ranked No. 10.

Brown has only played in one game, but in that game, he quickly showed why he was worthy of being picked so high. The former Cardinal starting point guard and 5-star freshman scored 20 points in just 22 minutes, shooting 50 percent from the field and 50 percent from beyond the arc after splashing three 3-pointers.

Brown put on an absolute show in the second half in his debut, scoring 16 points in the second half. The former 5-star point guard out of Orlando was making shots off the dribble, attacking the rim, and shooting well beyond the arc, demonstrating that lethal shooting range.

As for Conwell, he has played in four games and is making an immediate impact with the Miami Heat. Conwell has scored 16 points in all four games, including two games with 20 points or more. His best game came when he scored 26 points on 57 percent shooting from the field and 44 percent from beyond the arc, making four 3-pointers.

The former Xavier transfer is right behind Brown for points per game so far this summer, ranked No. 10 in the league, averaging 19.0 points per game. He is scoring off the dribble and off the pass and showing the Heat and Erik Spoelstra that he can be a reliable scorer and shooter off the bench.

Louisville fans are enjoying this offseason so far, watching these two former stars show out at the NBA Summer League. Now, of course, the Summer League isn’t the NBA level, but these two showing out and representing Louisville strongly is a great step before the NBA season officially starts.
