Earlier this month, Pat Kelsey and Louisville basketball made another major splash as the Cardinals landed the former North Carolina star Seth Trimble. Following the “five-for-five” rule, the Cardinals picked up a major piece for their backcourt, as Trimble is coming off his best collegiate season and is going to be an immediate starter and key piece on Kelsey’s squad.
The Cardinals have made drastic changes this offseason, adding 10 players, including seven from the Transfer Portal. Kelsey had to replace all five starters from this past season, including his top scorers, and he did a phenomenal job, landing the No. 1 Transfer Portal class after securing commitments from multiple notable transfers, including Trimble.
Now, the Cardinals continue to earn well-deserved praise after Kelsey landed Trimble, and Fox Sports college basketball analyst Aaron Torres keeps giving Louisville the flowers they deserve. This time, when he breaks down the Cardinals after the addition of Trimble, he gives Louisville fans another reason to be extremely excited: he doesn’t just think the Cards are a top 10 team; he thinks they have a strong case to be a top five team.
Aaron Torres believes Seth Trimble could make Louisville a top-five team
Torres gives the Cardinals a lot of praise following the Cardinals' landing of Trimble. He mentions that the top three teams are in Florida, Illinois, and Duke, and after those three, a handful of teams are competing to round out the top five.
One of those teams he would put in the mix is the Cardinals.
“Where you been? I think Seth Trimble puts them over the top. This has been a darn good roster from the beginning,” stated Torres. “I would put Louisville right in the conversation as the No. 4 or No. 5 team in the country coming into the year.”
Torres makes it clear the Cardinals have many strengths with the addition of Trimble. They have a physical guard, an elite rim protector in Flory Bidunga, an athletic wing in Knox, a star point guard in Jackson Shelstad, backcourt depth in Adrian Wooley and De'Shayne Montgomery, 5-star recruit in Obinna Ekezie Jr., stretch four in Alvaro Folgueiras, and more.
The Cardinals have the seventh-highest odds to win the 2027 National Title for a reason, and now it is clear it is time for them to go on a Final Four run and to cut down some nets. Louisville has the roster to win a National Championship, and Torres makes it clear he is all-in on Kelsey’s roster for this upcoming season.
