Louisville basketball is currently in the mix for the top-ranked available transfer, Milan Momcilovic. The 5-star transfer is ranked No. 2 overall, behind Louisville transfer commit Flory Bidunga.
Milan Momcilovic Update: Latest news boosts Pat Kelsey's chances of landing 5-star PF
The Cardinals have been linked to Momcilovic for quite some time, but recently, their in-state rivals, the Kentucky Wildcats, have gained momentum and are the current frontrunners. This was a four-team battle, but St. John’s reportedly dropped out of the race, and Matt Norlander made it clear that Arizona is a “distant” third team.
Which means, this is an in-state recruiting battle for the 5-star power forward with Kentucky and Louisville, and while everyone is predicting the Wildcats to land Momcilovic, On3 Sports Joe Tipton refuses to count Louisville out just yet.
Louisville basketball remains serious threat for Milan Momcilovic
The Cardinals are reportedly trailing Kentucky for the 5-star, as Tipton and many other analysts report the Wildcats are trending with Momcilovic and are the current leaders. However, in Tipton’s latest report, while he reports that Kentucky is the current frontrunner, he gave Louisville fans hope not to give up just yet.
“While the momentum is currently trending in the Wildcats’ direction, I’m still not ready to rule out Louisville in this recruitment,” stated Tipton in a recent article.
Tipton previously wrote that Louisville and Kentucky are the frontrunners, and while the Wildcats are gaining momentum and are emerging as the leader in this race, Tipton isn’t closing the door on Louisville as he did with St. John’s.
So, Louisville fans aren’t giving up just yet. Looking at the two rosters, the Cardinals have the more eye-popping roster if Momcilovic wants to try to win a National Title. The Cardinals have completely rebuilt their roster, and Pat Kelsey has done a phenomenal job, landing multiple 5-stars and 4-stars from the Transfer Portal and the 2026 recruiting class.
Louisville’s roster, as it stands, is trending towards being a Final Four contender, but if Kelsey can land Momcilovic over Kentucky, not only would that be music to Louisville fans' ears, but it would jump the Cardinals up to a top-five team in the nation and a real threat for the NCAA Title.
Norlander on CBS Sports reported he expects Momcilovic to announce his decision by Monday, so if Louisville and Kelsey want to make some noise and gain some momentum in this battle, they will have to act fast.
