The New Orleans Saints' first 2025 NFL preseason matchup took place this evening, and the one thing every Saints fan is tuning in for is the quarterback showdown. Kellen Moore has a massive decision to make leading up to the start of the 2025 season as he must decide between Spencer Rattler and second-round draft pick out of Louisville, Tyler Shough.
Rattler made it clear during this training camp that he believes he should be the starter, but after Shough was given a fully guaranteed contract, there is no guarantee he will start week one against the Arizona Cardinals.
Well, in the Saints' first preseason game against the San Diego Chargers, Rattler got the nod to start, and after just one half of football, it is clear Shough should be the Saints' starting quarterback in week one.

It only took Tyler Shough two minutes to prove he should start over Spencer Rattler
The former Louisville football star just got two minutes of showtime in the first half, and in his first two minutes of NFL football, he was able to do one thing that Rattler couldn't do in 28 minutes. Put points on the board.
Shough was handed the ball for a two-minute drill to end the first half, and in his two minutes, he went 5/8 for 42 passing yards and led the Saints to a field goal to end the half. The Saints went into the locker room trailing 9-3, thanks to Shough and his ability to work quickly.
It is also worth noting that two of Shough's incompletions were good decisions. One was a spike, showing good time control, and the other was a decision to throw it away.
In the Rattlers series, the second-year quarterback was nothing special, and in fact had a turnover as the Chargers forced a fumble at the start of the second quarter, which led to a field goal, giving San Diego a 3-0 lead.
Moore has made it clear that if Shough is given the starting job, it is because he earned it and he proved he is the better quarterback. The Saints want to take a big leap forward in 2025, and Moore is letting the nation know he won't pick Shough because he is a rookie.
It is going to be a close call on who gets the nod to start week one against the Cardinals, but if this first half proved anything is that Shough showed he can score points.
