In recent news, the Saints' former quarterback Derek Carr announced his retirement, making former Louisville football star quarterback take the driver's seat and be in prime position for the starting role. Tyler Shough was drafted with the Saints' No. 40 overall pick and is now expected to be the future for Kellen Moore and his squad.

Shough is now in a battle for that starting spot with Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener, but it is likely the spot is his if he performs like he did at the Reese's Senior Bowl or the NFL Combine. Last season, Rattley got some action with the Saints, but it was nothing pretty. He started in two games and threw for 1,317 passing yards, four touchdowns, and five interceptions in seven games.

Nick Underhill recently visited the Saints minicamp to witness Shough and his potential firsthand. The football expert was left nearly speechless, expressing "Oh My God" multiple times before leaving the practice.

Shough was the most NFL-ready quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft, as he spent seven years in College Football, and is already 25 years old. At first, the age was an issue for some football experts, but the more they watched his tape, the more they had these "Oh My God" reactions.

"They had this drill where there were five pads down and they were running over them going from the middle of the field to the left sideline and throwing an off-platform throw across their body to the left-front corner of the end zone," Nick Underhill stated. "He goes through this and it was like an 'Oh My God' moment. Like 'Oh My God.'"

It didn't take long for the former Louisville star quarterback to make his first impression. Shough had multiple 'Oh My God' moments in a Cardinals uniform, and Saints fans are now just happy it is transferring to his first NFL camp, and experts are falling in love with his ability to perform at the NFL level.

"He just moves so fluidly," Underhill stated. "He has that torque and ability, and that was the stuff that showed up on his film, those were the 'Oh My God' moments on his film was him throwing on the move, going to his left. He makes these throws, and it's like 'Oh My God, how does he do that?'"

ESPN's Field Yates reported that he believes Shough is the Saints guy for week 1, making him the favorite to start for Moore.

"I believe Shough will beat outSpencer Rattlerand Jake Haener for the starting job," Yates said. "Shough's arm talent, ability to read the defense and mobility are the foundation of an impressive skill set. He threw 23 touchdown passes last season and has 32 career starts under his belt."

Shough is expected to be that next great quarterback in a Saints uniform, as he has big shoes to fill, but all the skills to do it. The former Louisville quarterback had a phenomenal season in his seventh season as he was just the 13th Cardinal to throw for 3,000 passing yards or more.

Shough is emerging as the frontrunner to start week 1, but the job isn't his yet. He must continue to have these 'Oh My God' moments all offseason, and then the rest will take care of itself for the former Cardinal.
