The transfer portal is approaching, with many talents already available. Last season, Louisville football added over 29 transfers, and with the Cardinals losing several 2025 starters, Jeff Brohm and his staff are expected to stay active this offseason.

The Cardinals are losing a lot of star power from this season across many positions, but one position the fans are calling on Brohm to attack is the secondary. Louisville lost four of its top five defensive backs in 2024 and had to hit the portal, and now it is in a similar situation again.

Louisville fans are keeping a close eye on defensive backs entering the portal, and one they should try to recruit to wear red and black is a recent transfer from an ACC rival.

It was announced yesterday that Florida State safety Edwin Joseph will enter the portal, and with two years of eligibility left, he is a perfect target for the Cardinals.  Joseph was a former 4-star recruit out of high school, ranked among the top 400 prospects in Florida.

He was a former Louisville target out of high school, as the Cardinals not only extended an offer to Joseph, but also earned a visit in November of 2022. Now, in college for the Seminoles, he has played in 28 games over his three seasons, after redshirting his freshman season.

Last season, he played in every game for Florida State, recording 13 tackles (7 solo), 1 pass deflection, 1.5 sacks, and 1 interception. He then took a massive leap this past season in his sophomore year, logging 37 total tackles (19 solo), five pass deflections, one forced fumble, and three interceptions.

With Louisville being heavily involved in his high school recruitment, Cardinals fans are immediatley hoping they are heavily involved in his transfer recruitment. The former 4-star recruit earned over 27 offers and took six total visits, including to Penn State and Auburn. After his impressive sophomore season, he will likely have SEC, ACC, and Big 10 schools calling him again.

Louisville needs a lot of help in the secondary, and a player like Joseph would be a massive splash for the Cardinals and their defense.
