Louisville football is looking to make a splash in the wide receiver room as the Cardinals are trying to replace key players like Chris Bell and Caullin Lacy. The Cardinals have been in contact with multiple elite transfer wide receivers early on, but one key target just got ripped off the board.

Oklahoma State landed an elite transfer from North Texas, Wyatt Young, after their weekend visit. The Cowboys have been heavily involved in the portal, landing over four transfers from North Texas, with the latest being Young. The Cardinals were reportedly expected to host Young after he visited with the Pokes, but it appears that won’t happen as the Cowboys' new head coach, Eric Morris, secured Young’s commitment.

Louisville football loses recruiting battle to Eric Morris and Oklahoma State

The Pokes have now earned commitments from seven transfers, five of whom come from North Texas. OSU's new head coach will take over after the Cowboys fired Mike Gundy after their loss to Tulsa in the 2025 season. With Oklahoma State hiring Morris, he has now brought in elite playmakers from his former team, including Young, his latest commitment.

The Cardinals lost six of their top seven wide receivers from the 2025 season, and while the fans knew it was a long shot to earn Young’s commitment, they thought they might have a shot after hearing they were set to host the 4-star transfer. Young will now go to Oklahoma State with his North Texas quarterback, Drew Mestemaker, after the two had a dominant season together.

Young is ranked as high as a 4-star transfer, the No. 31 transfer in the portal, and the No. 6 wide receiver. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound receiver is coming off a career year after the sophomore took a massive leap and was top 25 in the nation in catches, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns. In 2025, the North Texas transfer hauled in  70 catches for 1,264 yards and 10 receiving touchdowns.

So, now with Louisville striking out on Young, they will turn to UAB transfer Iverson Hooks, Texas transfer DeAndre Moore Jr., and Kansas State transfer Jayce Brown. Brohm and the Cardinals have earned a visit or will host in the near future with all receivers listed above.
