Louisville football takes on the Stanford Cardinal this weekend at L&N Stadium. When Louisville fans hear Stanford, they will immediately think about their crushing game against the Cardinals a couple of years ago, when UofL was trying to make a run to the ACC Championship Game and had just earned a historic win over Clemson. However, the very next weekend they were upset by a 3-win Stanford team.

Louisville football vs Stanford early odds and a prediction

The Cardinals have struggled in conference games they are supposed to win, losing to Stanford in 2024,  Cal last year, and NC State and Wake Forest this year. Now, they will look to avoid another bad loss to Stanford, and Jeff Brohm was asked how to make sure his team doesn’t overlook the Cardinals.

Louisville cannot overlook Stanford like it did in 2024

Louisville has had tough losses under Brohm, but the Cards' head coach reveals his recipe for success in games that aren’t blockbluster showdowns. He makes it clear you can’t overlook anyone and that anyone can beat anyone. Look at Auburn beating Georgia, and BYU beating Notre Dame and then UCF beating BYU. Upsets have happened all year, and Brohm reveals his recipe to keep Louisville from becoming the next victim.

“Internally, I think we know how this game works," stated Brohm. “As you see every week, anybody can beat anybody. A Lot of top teams that are ranked high , go down every week. There are good football teams everywhere. The game comes down to 10-12 possessions. You have to make that work. You got to get points. You got to create stops on defense. You got to get turnovers. You got to take advantage of the momentum you get and the shifts you get. And that means you got to be prepared and ready to go. As soon as you take the foot off the gas, you are going to have to pay for it. You got to find ways to win the football game.”

Brohm made it clear this team wants to win, and that in college football anybody can beat anybody. So, if Louisville wants to win this game, nobody can overlook Stanford, and the Cardinals must keep their foot on the gas pedal.

If Louisville wants any chance at going to the ACC Championship Game, Saturday’s game against Stanford is a must-win. But Brohm’s message is clear. This Cardinals team is taking it one game at a time, and they aren’t overlooking anyone, especially a Stanford team that just beat North Carolina State.

“We have shown good fight. Our guys want to win, but we have to concentrate, focus, and lock in, and do exactly what we're supposed to do on every play. For coaches, being locked in and making adjustments along the way is vital for success, so we have to do it all.” stated Brohm.

The Cardinals are a three-touchdown favorite this weekend, with ESPN giving them a 98% chance of winning. So the Cardinals must listen to Brohm’s message, ignore the outside noise, and focus on winning. Football has been chaotic, including for the Cardinals, but Louisville must do whatever it takes to go 1-0 each week and position itself to make the ACC Championship Game.
