Louisville football got off to a hot start in the 2027 recruiting class, as the Cardinals were once ranked as high as No. 4 in the 247 Sports recruiting team rankings. Louisville landed multiple in-state 4-stars, including Allen Evans, who ranks as high as No. 69 overall and No. 10 among cornerbacks.
3 football targets who could commit to Louisville after Ja'Hyde Brown's commitment
However, some powerhouse programs have caught up to Brohm, and Louisville now ranks No. 16 overall. Which is still on pace to break the program's record for best recruiting class of all time, but if Brohm wants to stay in this area or climb back up in the recruiting rankings, there is one target that Louisville must go get.
Louisville football has a clear No. 1 target
Right now, Louisville has a few targets the fans are keeping a close eye on, but someone who would be a massive addition to this class is the 4-star defensive lineman Malachi Brown. The Kentucky native is a top-200 recruit in the 2027 recruiting class and has received over 19 offers.
Louisville is in a recruiting battle with its in-state rival, the Kentucky Wildcats, as well as many other powerhouse programs, such as Tennessee, Alabama, Miami, Ohio State, and Indiana, that have extended offers. Tennessee, Kentucky, and Purdue all have visits lined up in June, but Louisville has visited Brown in 2026 and hosted the 4-star on campus earlier this year during spring practice.
Now, with Louisville and Brohm trying to make history, the Cards need to keep pushing for Brown, as he would be a massive commitment in this cycle. He ranks as high as a 4-star recruit, No. 174 in the 2027 cycle, and No. 21 among defensive linemen.
The Cardinals have already landed three of the top six recruits from Kentucky in the 2027 recruiting class, and Brown would make it four. He ranks as high as No. 3 from Kentucky, which puts him right behind the Cardinals' highest-rated commitment so far, Allen Evans.
Right now, On3 Sports has Kentucky as the slight favorites with a 22.7 percent chance of landing Brown, and right behind is Louisville and Brohm at a 19.9 percent chance.
The Cardinals' 14 commitments have Louisville inside the top 20 at the moment, but if Brohm can land Brown, he would continue to dominate the state of Kentucky and turn heads nationwide. The Cards have to finish strong in this 2027 recruiting class, and a player like Brown will help keep them inside the top 20.
