Louisville football is expecting Isaac Brown and Duke Watson to lead this team to a successful 2025 season, and for that to happen, the Cardinals' offensive line must step up. After a solid season from the front line in 2024, the Cardinals now turn to new faces to block for the run game.
With the Cardinals in desperate need of a new leader after losing significant pieces from last year, fan favorite and key returner Pete Nygra has quickly stepped up after his lone season with Louisville and has emerged as one of the team leaders.

Veteran Pete Nygra taking charge ahead of 2025 season
Louisville's offensive line last year had a 70.3 offensive line grade, per Pro Football Focus, which ranked No. 55 in the nation. However, after losing four starters, the Cardinals will rely heavily on Nygra in the 2025 season.
As the Cardinals approach the 2025 season and are getting deeper and deeper into fall camp, it becomes clearer that Nygra's production on the field isn't just what stands out, but his leadership as well.
"Just being able to take charge and command the huddle," offensive line coach Richard Owens stated. "He gets up to the line of scrimmage, he'll make a call, he tries to get everybody going on the same page."
Owens emphasized that it is his presence that makes him stand out. The Cardinals' offensive line enters the 2025 season as one of the weaker offensive lines Owens has coached during his tenure at Louisville. The Cards are still trying to figure out who will get the nod to start, but Louisville fans know Nygra will be the one snapping.
When Owens was asked how vital Nygra is to the Cardinals' offensive line, he emphasized that his leadership is what the guys are leaning on. This offensive line is going to have some trials and tribulations early in the season. Owens made it clear that when things aren't going so smoothly, Nygra and the veterans must be leaders, command the huddle, and help lead this group.
Nygra enters the 2025 season as one of the top centers in college football after he made the Rimington Trophy Watch List. The 6-foot-4, 300-pound center was just one of two offensive linemen to start in all 13 games last season, and the Cardinals are banking on his skill and leadership for 2025.
