Louisville football concluded its 2025 season 9-4 after the Cardinals secured their second straight bowl victory. The Cards finished 9-4 once again and have officially won at least nine games in all three seasons under Jeff Brohm.

Louisville's roller coaster season ended on a high note, but now the attention turns to Josh Heird and the program, giving their head coach the raise and extension Brohm deserves. Fans grew concerned that Brohm might leave Louisville for Michigan, as more reports emerged that the Wolverines had contacted their head coach.

However, Pete Thamel reported on Christmas Eve that Brohm is on the outside of the top three, and just today, he reported Michigan is zeroing in on one specific coach.

Latest update on Michigan's job opening is an excellent sign for Louisville fans

Thamel, College Football Senior Writer for ESPN, reported a couple of days ago that Michigan's top three doesn't include Louisville's head coach, allowing the Cards fans to take a deep breath.

"There's three candidates right now that are in their crosshairs," Thamel reported. "That is Eliah Drinkwitz, the Missouri coach, Jedd Fisch, the Washington coach, and obviously soon-to-be former Utah coach, Kyle Whittingham."

He recently updated his report, and the Wolverines are growing increasingly interested in Whittingham, as Thamel reports a deal might be coming in the near future.

"Whittingham's candidacy is expected to be shared with top Michigan officials on Friday, per sources, and a deal could come together in the near future if they approve," ESPN reported Friday morning.

Today's update gives Louisville fans even more confidence that the Cardinals will keep Brohm and avoid a disastrous situation in which he leaves the program for another school. Brohm has an impressive resume since joining Louisville in 2023, including a 28-12 record, an appearance in the ACC Title game, and wins over Clemson, Miami, and Notre Dame.

The Cards fans now want to extend Brohm and give him a pay raise, as their head coach is currently the 43rd-highest-paid coach in college football. The 2025 coaching carousel has been complete and utter chaos, and Brohm was in the mix of almost all of it.

Brohm staying loyal and turning down Florida, LSU, Penn State, and possibly Michigan shows his true colors and that he not only wants to win an ACC Title but also contend for the College Football Playoffs. With the Transfer Portal just one week away, this offseason is crucial, and Brohm, as Louisville's head coach, has already connected the Cards with elite transfers such as DJ Lagway and Dylan Raiola.

It was reported over three weeks ago that Brohm and Louisville were working on a contract extension, and if Michigan hires Whittingham rather than Brohm, fans would hope Heird extends Brohm in the near future.
