Louisville football is just 50 days away from its first game of the 2026 season, and the Cardinals fans cannot wait. The city of Louisville is buzzing with excitement for its football and basketball programs, as both teams had excellent offseasons.
Jeff Brohm has earned the nickname "quarterback whisperer" over the years at Louisville, as the Cards' head coach has developed multiple college quarterbacks into NFL talents. Now, the Cardinals fans are hoping Brohm can do that once again with their newest QB, Lincoln Kienholz.
The 4-star Ohio State transfer comes to Louisville with limited experience but has played for one of the most successful programs in recent years. So, with Kienholz coming to play under Brohm after playing alongside well-known quarterbacks, he revealed earlier this week what his biggest lesson from being in the quarterback room with Will Howard and Julian Sayin was.

Ohio State has emerged as one of the nation's top college football powerhouses. In 2024, Kienholz was part of the locker room when Ohio State won the National Championship, and this past year, Ohio State returned to the College Football Playoffs. A big reason Ohio State was able to dominate these past few years was because of their great quarterback play from Howard in 2024 and Sayin this past season.
Kienholz was part of these great quarterback rooms, and now he looks to bring what he learned from Ohio State to Louisville. Earlier this week at media day, Kienholz was asked what his biggest lesson was from being in a quarterback room with those two, and Kienholz made it clear it was leadership.
“I would say just the leadership,” stated Kienholz earlier this week, on one thing he learned from those quarterback rooms at Ohio State. “The time that they put in, and trying to be perfect in every aspect. That is something that they pushed on themselves, and also coaches pushed on the quarterback room in general. Just try to be perfect with everything single aspect of the game, and I feel like the past three years learning from those guys, I think, is going to help me this year.”
Kienholz battled Sayin for the starting job last offseason at Ohio State, but the former 5-star recruit earned the job over Kienholz. It was reported to be a close battle between the two quarterbacks, earning Kienholz a lot of praise since Sayin went on to become a Heisman finalist.
Leadership is a crucial aspect of the quarterback position in the game. Kienholz has to be the main guy in charge on the field, and hearing him say that is one of the biggest lessons he learned from the other two Ohio State quarterbacks. That is great to hear for Louisville football fans.
Kienholz hasn’t had his time to shine in college football, but Brohm made it clear he is confident in their new quarterback. Kienholz ranked as high as a 4-star recruit out of high school, No. 172 overall and No. 11 among quarterbacks in the 2023 recruiting class. In his final high school season, he threw 3,422 yards and 46 touchdowns, and in his high school career, he finished with 9,100 yards and 104 touchdowns.
The time is now for Kienholz, and hopefully, he can bring what he learned from Ohio State and some College Football Playoff magic as well.
