Louisville women's basketball secured a season-saving win last night over the No. 11 Duke Blue Devils and are making a late season push to try and secure a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
Cardinals have won six of their last seven, including a four game win streak, as three of those four wins came over ranked teams, and last two wins came over top 25 teams on the road. Head coach, Jeff Walz has gotten this team on track to not just compete in the ACC Tournament, but to possibly be a top four seed as they are now 12-3 in the ACC.
After starting 6-5, just like Pat Kelsey and his men's squad, the Women's have now won 13 of their last 15, and have improved to 19-7. UofL 70-62 win last night over No. 11 Duke was monumental as their dominant streak as of late proves the Cardinals unlimited potential as they are beating teams that are the real deal.
It’s amazing to see Louisville's women’s basketball team making such a strong push at the right time of the season, and to overcome all adversity. The stakes are as high as it gets, but this Cardinals squad is proving that nothing is to tall for them to overcome.
Louisville basketball a force to be reckoned after toppling ranked giants recently
Entering Thursday's night game Duke was undefeated from Cameron Indoor Stadium and won 18 consecutive games dating back to last year.
Cardinals were led by Jayda Curry where she was dominant on both sides of the ball as she had a season-high 24 points, but also added a season-high of five steals. She finished shooting the ball 3-7 from downtown, and 6-14 from the field. She added a perfect 9-9 from the charity stripe, including six in the fourth quarter.
Every stater had a steal in the game, and UofL capitalized on Duke's mistakes as Louisville scored 27 points off of 20 turnovers. Cardinals shot 50% from beyond the arc (6-12) and Tajianna Roberts pitched, the five-time ACC Rookie of the Week, pitched in with 11 points.
Louisville basketball has just three games remaining, but they have a tall task at hand. Their next three games continue this battle tested stretch as they go against No. 9 North Carolina, and followed up by Clemson at KFC Yum! Center and at No. 1 Notre Dame.
If Cardinals can steal two of three here that would be huge and most likely secure a top four seed in the ACC Tournament. Louisville impressive win streak though shows the type of toughness and grit that they have on this roster.
At a time where all-hands-were-on-deck, and everyone knew the schedule ahead, Cardinals didn't back down and picked up three wins over top 25 teams. Louisville basketball has all the momentum carrying into KFC Yum! Center for their fourth ranked opponent in last five wins as No. 9 UNC and Louisville will square off at 2 p.m. local time.
Cardinals are currently projected to be a six seed in Charlie Creme bracketology, and square off with UNLV.
