Louisville basketball is making a push for a few 2027 recruits right now as Pat Kelsey looks to carry the momentum from his dominant Transfer Portal run into the 2027 cycle. The Cardinals are emerging as a top landing spot in college basketball since Kelsey's arrival, as this offseason, Louisville landed a pair of 5-stars and multiple 4-stars.
Now, Louisville and Kelsey will turn their attention to the 2027 recruiting class, as the Cardinals are in the hunt for 4-star shooting guard Chase Lumpkin. The shooting guard is a unanimous 4-star across all recruiting sites, and Joe Tipton recently reported that Louisville is one of many teams in the hunt at the moment and is trying to earn a visit.
Pat Kelsey making a strong push for 4-star Chase Lumpkin
It appears Louisville is in an early recruiting battle with Kentucky, Florida State, Oregon, UCLA, and Lumpkin’s home state, Georgia. Tipton reports Lumpkin is working with Louisville to take a visit, along with the five other schools.

The Cardinals are one of 19 schools to extend an offer to Lumpkin. The 4-star shooting guard has earned offers from the five other programs Tipton listed, as well as Alabama, Tennessee, SMU, Indiana, Auburn, and others, and is trying to earn a visit.
The 6-foot-4 shooting guard currently plays for McEachern High School and is from Powder Springs, Ga. The unanimous 4-star ranks as high as No. 46 in Rivals Industry Rankings, and ranks No. 5 among shooting guards in 247 Sports Composite Rankings.
Lumpkin is coming off an impressive junior season in which he averaged 17.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, 6.1 assists, and 1.9 steals. The 4-star shooting guard is an offensive weapon who is an elite scorer, and Kelsey clearly sees his potential and is making a strong push for Lumpkin.
Louisville earned three commitments in the 2027 recruiting class, but 5-star Obinna Ekezie Jr. and 3-star Isaac Ellis reclassified to the 2026 class, leaving Louisville with just one commitment at the moment. The Cardinals' lone commitment is 4-star Louisville native Ferlandes Wright.
Kelsey is looking to get an early jump in this 2027 recruiting class, as he is also making a strong push for 5-star point guard Reese Alston and 5-star power forward CJ Rosser.
