UofL fell out of the rankings, and look to get back in the win column tomorrow night, Feb. 5, at Boston College at 7 p.m. local time on ACC Network. Cardinals will try and improve their shooting, as of past two games they have not shot great from beyond the arc. UofL shot a combine 20/61, which is has helped lead to dropping their season average, as it is now 32%.
Louisville has be led by transfer guard Chucky Hepburn all season long, as he has been one of the more dominant and consistent well-rounded players in college basketball. Hepburn currently leads the Cardinals in scoring with 15.1 points per game and averages 6.4 assists per game, and is shooting 42% from the field, and 84% from the charity stripe. Hepburn is filling the stat sheet every game as he also averages 3.5 rebounds, and 2 steals.
On Monday the 10 finalists for the Bob Cousy award were announced, and Chucky Hepburn for whatever reason was not on the finalist list.
Louisville basketball's Chucky Hepburn robbery
The Bob Cousy award is presented annually to the best point guard in the nation and honoring the legacy of one of the best point guards to ever play the sport of basketball. The award is to shine a bright light on the point guard who demonstrated leadership and quality performance on the court.
Hepburn is top 15 in the country in total assists, assist per game, and total steals and steals per game, as he averages 2.4 steals per game. Hepburn is a clear frontrunner to win Defensive player of the year in the ACC and will most likely be on the first-team All ACC.
The Cardinals star guard has had 12 games of seven or more assists and against SMU, Hepburn broke Louisville's single game assists record, as he recorded 16 assists. Hepburn has scored 10 points or more in 16/22 games this season and has had 20 or more in four of those games.
Louisville has secured a spot in third place as of today in the ACC standings, and Chucky Hepburn is one of the main reasons for this programs turnaround. The Cardinals were 8-24 last season, 4-28 in 2023 and a combine record of 25-71 in the last three seasons, and now sit 16-6 and were ranked for first time since 2020.
Head coach Pat Kelsey put out a humorous tweet of just a simple emoji and reposted the finalists.
The 10 finalists for the Bob Cousy award include the following; Mark Sears (Alabama), Walter Clayton Jr. (Florida), Ryan Nembhard (Gonzaga), Keshon Gilbert (Iowa State), Kam Jones (Marquette), Ace Baldwin Jr. (Penn State), Braden Smith (Purdue), Dylan Harper (Rutgers), Zakai Ziegler (Tennessee) and Javon Small (West Virginia).
Unfortunatley for Boston College, Chucky Hepburn is going to be due for a career day tomorrow night. Not only, is BC 2-8 in ACC play and struggling mightily this year, but now UofL is coming off a loss, and Hepburn was just robbed of a prestigious award.
BC is ranked 286, as they give up 75 points per game, and their opponents shoot 37% from deep, which ranks 333. This Boston College defense has struggled all season long and Chucky Hepburn is due for a breakout game.
Hepburn shoots it decent from beyond the arc at a 33% split, but his ability to play make and attack the basket is where he will look to dominate tomorrow. The star guard should have a field day against the Eagles tomorrow and will try and get this Cardinals offense starting quick.
Chucky Hepburn is one of 50 players selected in the 2024-2025 Oscar Robertson Trophy Midseason Watch List. This award is selected by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association, and the award won't be announced until the Final Four April 5.
