Louisville basketball had an eye-popping recruiting run as Pat Kelsey and company landed nine commitments since the 2025-26 season, including six commitments from the Transfer Portal and three from the 2026 recruiting class. Kelsey went on a dominant recruiting run, creating one of the best rosters in college basketball.

Now, he is looking to carry that momentum into the 2027 recruiting class as the Cardinals are trending with one of the top-ranked recruits in the 2027 cycle. Louisville just got a huge update from 5-star recruit Darius Wabbington, as the Cards just made his updated recruiting list.
Louisville basketball gets major update from 5-star Darius Wabbington
Louisville learned on Tuesday that it is in a heated recruiting battle with Kentucky, North Carolina, Indiana, Texas, and Arizona, as all six programs learned they made the top six for 5-star recruits.
The Cardinals are making a push in the 2027 and 2028 recruiting classes, and it appears Wabbington might be near the top of their list, as the good news doesn't stop at making the 5-stars final six. The 6-foot-11, 245-pound center set his first three visits, and Louisville was one of them, as the Cardinals will host the 5-star on September 11.

The 5-star center is ranked as high as No. 13 overall in the 2027 recruiting class, and No. 1 among centers. Louisville is looking to dominate the center position in this class as they landed Obinna Ekezie Jr., who ranked No. 1 overall in the 2027 cycle and No. 1 among centers, but as all Cardinals fans know, Ekezie reclassified to the 2026 class, and now Kelsey is going after the next best center.
Wabbington ranks No. 4 among recruits from Arizona as he attends Sunnyslope High, where he averaged 17.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game in his dominant junior season. He was also on Team USA's U18 National Team, where the 5-star center averaged 9.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in their silver medal run.
So, the Cardinals are looking to land another dominant center, and they are trending in the right direction. The 5-star center also set up visits with Arizona on September 25 and Texas on October 9, but Louisville got the first visit, which is always a plus for Kelsey.
Louisville already has one 2027 commitment in Louisville native Ferlandes Wright, who is a 4-star recruit and ranks as high as No. 61 in the nation.
