Louisville basketball has been making some recent pushes in the 2028 recruiting class, as Pat Kelsey and company have been extending offers and contacting some of the best recruits in the 2028 cycle. Since Kelsey arrived at Louisville, he has completely flipped this program around, including recruiting.

Louisville basketball enters race for elite 5-star guard after extending offer

The Cardinals have earned two historic high school commitments since Kelsey arrived with 5-star Mikel Brown Jr. and another 5-star Obinna Ekezie Jr. Now, Kelsey will look to continue that trend of 5-stars to the 2027 recruiting class.

While Louisville didn't earn an addition to the 2027 recruiting class, the Cardinals' lone commitment saw another huge jump in 247Sports' recent rankings.

Louisville's 4-star commit Ferlandes Wright surgest in updated rankings

Earlier this week, 247Sports updated its class of 2027 recruiting rankings, and yet again, the Cardinals' 4-star commitment, Ferlandes Wright, jumped in these rankings. When Wright committed to Louisville, he was a 3-star recruit who ranked as high as No. 149 in the class, No. 19 at the power forward position, and No. 5 in the state of Indiana.

However, he then saw his rankings soar, emerging as a 4-star prospect in the 2027 cycle, jumping up to No. 76 in the class, and now, in their latest update, the Cardinals' 4-star commitment ranks as high as No. 61 in the nation.

The 4-star recruit continues to be one of the highest risers in the 2027 class and continues to be a better commitment for the Cardinals' 2027 class. Wright wasn't the only 2027 commitment for Louisville; the Cardinals also landed three commitments in the class. However, 3-star point guard Isaac Ellis and 5-star recruit and the nation's No. 2 overall prospect, Obinna Ekezie Jr., reclassified to the 2026 class and will be with Louisville this upcoming season.

So, now Wright emerges as Louisville's only 2027 commitment at this time, but the 4-star continues to get the respect he deserves. Wright is a Louisville native and then transferred to La Lumiere School in LaPorte, Ind.

The 6-foot-7, 220-pound forward ranks as high as No. 9 among power forwards and now is the No. 3 recruit out of Indiana. The 4-star forward has earned over 6 offers so far, and before he transferred to La Lumiere School, he had a dominant year in Louisville at Fairdale High School. Wright put up huge numbers, averaging 18.0 points, 12.6 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.7 blocks, and 1.4 steals per game, while collecting 27 double-doubles in 32 games, which ranks as the 10th most double-doubles in the nation in high school basketball that season.

Now, Kelsey and Louisville hope to earn more commitments and carry the momentum of Wright jumping into the rankings to secure more 4-star and elite recruits in this 2027 class.
