Pat Kelsey and Louisville basketball get more good news from the 2027 recruiting class. This recruiting class is really starting to amp up now, as the Cardinals have made multiple updated recruiting lists in August.
In the past couple of weeks, the Cardinals have been trending with multiple top-30 overall recruits, as they have made 5-star Reese Alston’s top seven, 5-star Cayden Daughtry’s top 14, and they made 5-star’s King Gibson’s top 10. Now, the Cardinals just learned they made another top-30 overall recruits updated recruiting list, as they made 4-star Chase Lumpkin’s final six.

The Cardinals are clearly making a serious push for guards in the 2027 recruiting class, as all four recruits are point guards or combo guards. Lumpkin is an elite point guard who is a unanimous top 30 overall prospect in the recruiting class.
Now, the Cardinals learned they are in the 4-stars’ final six as they are in a heated recruiting battle with Kentucky, Michigan, Alabama, USC, and Arkansas, according to On3 Sports' Joe Tipton.

Lumpkin is a unanimous 4-star recruit who earned over 31 offers from major programs that didn’t make the final six, including Tennessee, Oregon, Auburn, Georgia, Florida State, Ole Miss, UCLA, Indiana, Miami, Iowa, UConn, and others. Lumpkin ranks as high as No. 26 overall in the nation, No. 5 among shooting guards, No. 6 among combo guards, and No. 8 among point guards.
According to 247 Sports, the 4-star guard has already visited Michigan and USC and will visit Alabama next weekend. He is an elite scorer who is confident with the ball in his hands. With his ability to shoot the ball at a high level, it certainly seems like Kelsey has a dream of possibly pairing Lumpkin with Louisville’s glaring No. 1 target and 5-star point guard Reese Alston.
Over the summer, he played for Jet Academy in the Nike EYBL Circuit, and the 4-star guard averaged 17.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 2.2 steals per game. The final six teams are all powerhouse programs, so this won’t be an easy recruiting process for Kelsey and the Cardinals, but it is still early in the process. If Kelsey can get Lumpkin on campus for an official visit and really push the duo of Lumpkin and Alston, then the Cardinals could potentially have one of the most talented backcourts in 2027.
