The 2027 recruiting class is beginning to heat up as the Cardinals just got another update from another 5-star recruit. Earlier this month, Louisville learned they made top target Reese Alston’s final seven, along with the No. 3 overall recruit Cayden Daughtry’s final 14.
The Cardinals are trending with multiple top-15 overall recruits, and now Kelsey’s recruiting push landed inside another 5-star’s updated recruiting list. Yesterday, Louisville fans learned that 5-star King Gibson scheduled an official visit with the Cardinals, and later in the evening, they also learned that the Cardinals made his final 10.
The Cardinals are now one step closer to landing the 5-star, but still have ways to go, as they are in a heated recruiting battle with some big-time programs. Also, making Gibson’s final 10 includes UConn, Arkansas, LSU, Baylor, Syracuse, Providence, Illinois, Alabama, and Michigan.

Louisville basketball just got more good news with 5-star King Gibson
The Cards fans love what Kelsey is doing with Louisville’s recruiting as he continues to cement this program as a top recruiting destination. Louisville just had one of the best Transfer Portal classes in the nation after landing No. 1 overall recruit Flory Bidunga, and in 2025 Kelsey had another top-five portal class after landing three elite guards, including 5-star transfer Adrian Wooley.
Beyond the portal, he has landed two 5-star recruits in consecutive classes. And now, with Mikel Brown Jr. going No. 6 overall, he is looking to use that blueprint of developing a 5-star guard into a top-10 NBA draft pick to land more elite high school guards.
Gibson is an elite combo guard who has earned over 35 offers, including from notable programs that didn’t make his final 10, such as Kentucky, North Carolina, Houston, and Indiana. He is a unanimous 5-star prospect in the 2027 cycle and ranks as high as No. 5 overall in the nation and No. 1 among combo guards.
UofL got more good news yesterday, as they were one of five programs to earn an official visit on his upcoming tour. Louisville will be the first school to host the unanimous 5-star, as Gibson will visit next weekend, Sept. 4-6. Also earning visits are UConn (Sept. 13-15), Arkansas (Sept. 21-23), LSU (Sept. 25-27), and Baylor (Oct. 9-11).
The 6-foot-4, 185-pound guard is coming off an impressive season after averaging 15.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. He also played for Team United in the Nike EYBL Circuit, averaging 16.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 0.9 steals per game while shooting 45.3 percent from the field and 39.4 percent from beyond the arc.
