Louisville basketball is making a run at multiple recruits in the 2027 recruiting class, and earlier this week, Pat Kelsey and the Cardinals took a step forward with one elite prospect. The Cardinals are emerging as a top landing spot for elite recruits, as Kelsey quickly flipped this program into one of the top programs in college basketball since his arrival.

The Cardinals had a dominant 2026 offseason, landing the nation’s No. 1 overall Transfer Portal class, including the No. 1 overall transfer, Flory Bidunga. On top of that, Louisville went on an impressive run in the 2026 recruiting class, landing the No. 1 center and 5-star recruit Obinna Ekezie Jr.

Now, Kelsey and Louisville will look to carry that momentum into the 2027 recruiting class, as the Cardinals received great news about 5-star recruit Demarcus Henry.

Louisville lands in 5-star Demarcus Henry's final eight

Louisville learned it is in a heated recruiting battle with elite competition, as the Cardinals are in the 5-star final eight. Henry cut his list down to just eight schools, putting Louisville in a fierce battle with major programs like UConn, Kansas, Arkansas, North Carolina, BYU, Ohio State, and Kentucky.

The Cardinals' huge update regarding Henry puts them in a massive recruiting battle for one of the nation’s top prospects. Henry is not only a unanimous 5-star recruit, but the 6-foot-7, 200-pound forward is the unanimous No. 1 small forward in the 2027 recruiting cycle and a unanimous top-five recruit overall in the country.

Henry is ranked as high as No. 3 in the nation, the No. 1 small forward, and the No. 1 recruit from Arizona. As of right now, On3 Sports reports BYU and Ohio State are the only programs with unofficial visits, but with Louisville landing in his top eight, the hope is that an official visit is scheduled sooner rather than later.

The unanimous 5-star recruit has earned over 24 offers in his recruiting process, including from notable programs that didn’t make his final eight, like UCLA, Xavier, Vanderbilt, USC, Oregon, LSU, and others.

The elite 5-star small forward had a very eye-popping junior season with Compass Prep, averaging 12.9 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. Henry earned All-Nike EYBL Scholastic Second-Team and showcased why he is regarded as one of the top recruits in the 2027 recruiting class.

Louisville is beginning to heat up in the 2027 recruiting class, as Henry is the second 5-star to earn a major update. Louisville also made 5-star center Darius Wabbington’s final six, putting Louisville in a recruiting battle for the class of 2027’s No. 1 center with North Carolina, Kentucky, Indiana, Texas, and Arizona.

Wabbington ranks No. 13 overall in the 2027 recruiting class, and the Cardinals already have an official visit scheduled on September 11 with the 5-star center.
