Louisville basketball has had a busy offseason, adding 10 players, including seven from the Transfer Portal and three from the 2026 recruiting class. The Cardinals had to replace their top four scorers from the previous season, all five starters, and nine of their top 10 rotational players, and Kelsey did an almost perfect job.
In other major news, Kentucky landed Missouri transfer Mark Mitchell, and now the two in-state rivals are often being compared on who is better. Louisville fans saw in a recent rankings update from CBS Sports that they still give the Cardinals a slight edge, but The Field of 68’s Rob Dauster apparently disagrees.

Mitchell is a big-time get for the Wildcats, and now some are picking the Wildcats over the Cardinals, including Dauster. The Wildcats have the top-ranked Transfer Portal class following Mitchell’s commitment, and while CBS Sports ranks Louisville No. 8 and Kentucky No. 12, Dauster makes it clear he is all-in on Kentucky over Louisville.
“When you go position by position, you are probably right. It’s close. But when you look at the rosters, I think it is very clearly Kentucky is better,” stated Dauster. “Their forwards are significantly better than Louisville’s. Where I think Louisville’s guards are like, they are probably better.”

Kelsey doesn’t listen to much media noise, but if he does, this is perfect bulletin-board material for the Cardinals matchup with Kentucky in December. The Wildcats' biggest addition this offseason was the 5-star transfer Milan Momcilovic, who Louisville also went after.
However, Goodman quickly brought up the Cardinals' defense. Louisville’s defense has the potential to be one of the best in the nation, with three stars in Flory Bidunga, Karter Knox, and Seth Trimble. The Cardinals made major moves this offseason as well, and while Dauster is all-in on the Wildcats, the Cardinals have what it takes to limit them.

Dauster may lean Kentucky right now, and apparently by a lot, but that is just the perfect motivation for the Cardinals leading up to the 2026-27 season.
