Louisville basketball adds to massive portal haul with former 5-star recruit

Knox is a former 5-star recruit out of high school, ranking as high as No. 22 in the 2024 recruiting class. Louisville portal haul now has three commitments in four days, with Flory Bidunga and Jackson Shelstad being the other two commitments.

The Cards will now turn their attention to their next target, and on Wednesday morning, shortly after Knox committed, Iowa transfer Alvaro Folgueiras became the Cardinals' glaring next target after they received a major update from On3 Sports.

Louisville basketball's new glaring No. 1 target is Alvaro Folgueiras

Louisville is in dire need of a stretch-four who can space out the floor for the Cardinals, and it appears Folgueiras is Pat Kelsey’s obvious target. It was reported that Louisville was in contact with the Iowa transfer, but now, just moments after Louisville landed Knox, On3 Sports updated Folgueiras recruiting profile, and the Cardinals have emerged as the dominant frontrunner for the 4-star transfer.

On3 Sports reported on its website that Louisville has officially extended an offer to Folgueiras and now has a 100% chance of landing his commitment.

The 4-star transfer played just one season with Iowa, as he played his first two years with Robert Morris. This past season, he made the transition to a Power Five conference playing in the Big 10, and he averaged 8.4 points,3.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game while shooting 33 percent from beyond the arc and making 36 3’s on the season.

Folgueiras was a key piece off the bench for Iowa in their Elite 6 run this past NCAA Tournament, as he scored 14 points in Iowa’s first two games against Clemson and Florida, and followed it up with a 16-point game against Nebraska.

He is a stretch-four who will free up the paint for Bidunga, as in the year prior, he made a career-high 45 3-pointers while shooting 41.3 percent from beyond the arc. The 6-foot-8, 230-pound forward averaged a career high 14.1 points, 9.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game while shooting 54.8 percent from the field.

In that final year with Robert Morris, he logged 14 double-doubles and scored 20 points or more five times, including a career-high 35 points on 12-of-14 shooting againstNorthernKentucky. He committed to Iowa, ranked No. 32 overall in the 2025 Transfer Portal and No. 7 among power forwards.

The Iowa transfer now ranks as a unanimous 4-star transfer for the second straight offseason as he ranks as high as No. 53 overall and No. 13 among power forwards.
