Louisville basketball fans have been closely following a few 2027 recruits, especially over the past couple of months. The Cardinals are making a huge surge in the 2027 cycle right now, as Pat Kelsey has positioned the Cardinals in a prime position with a few elite prospects.

One of those recruits is 5-star point guard Reese Alston. The top-10 overall prospect has been hearing a lot from Louisville, to the point where On3 Sports' Jamie Shaw labels the Cardinals as the favorite as of now.

However, Louisville fans knew it wasn’t going to be easy to land Alston, and that is made clear as the point guard is reportedly taking an official visit this weekend to LSU, according to On3 Sports' Joe Tipton.

5-star PG Reese Alston will visit LSU this weekend

Not too long ago, Louisville got a huge update from the 5-star point guard, as they were one of the seven finalists on Alston’s updated recruiting list. Now, the Cardinals are in a heated recruiting battle with Houston, Wichita State, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, and LSU.

Now, LSU continues to put the pressure on Louisville with Alston, as Will Wade and the Tigers just landed a huge visit with the 5-star and are looking to try to make some noise with the elite guard.

Over the summer, Kelsey clearly prioritized Alston by attending multiple games of his during multiple events. Alston has emerged as one of the Cardinals' top targets in the 2027 recruiting class, especially since they made his final seven, and now LSU is emerging as a real threat to the Cardinals with this weekend's visit.

Over the summer, Shaw said the Cardinals, Tigers, and Wichita State were the biggest threats to land Alston, but in July and August, two SEC giants emerged as well: Kentucky and Tennessee. Then, after Alston cut his list to seven, Tipton reported that Louisville was the current frontrunner and that the biggest threat to the Cardinals was their in-state rival, Kentucky.

However, the recruiting process moves quickly, and while that may still be the case, Wade and the LSU Tigers have a huge visit this weekend that has certainly drawn Louisville and their fans' attention.

Alston is a unanimous 5-star point guard who collected over 36 offers from major schools like Purdue, Florida State, Illinois, Kansas, Texas, USC, and others that didn’t make his final seven. The 6-foot-3 guard ranks as high as No. 7 overall and No. 2 among point guards in the 2027 recruiting class.

Now, Louisville is in a heated recruiting battle with LSU and others as the Cardinals look to keep their lead over these other programs. Kelsey has landed a 5-star point guard before in Mikel Brown Jr., and the hope is that he lands his second in just three years at Louisville.
