Louisville basketball is making a strong push for multiple 5-star recruits, and the Cardinals just got a major update from one of their top targets. Louisville has already landed in 5-star Darius Wabbington’s final six and in No. 3 overall recruit and 5-star Demarcus Henry’s final eight, and now Pat Kelsey gets an update on 5-star Reese Alston.
The Cardinals have consistently recruited Alston this summer, and Kelsey was seen attending multiple games of the elite point guard. Now, the Cardinals are one step closer to earning his commitment, as he cut his list down to just seven schools, putting Louisville in a heated recruiting battle with Kentucky, LSU, Vanderbilt, Wichita State, Tennessee, and Houston.

Louisville basketball gets crucial update from 5-star Reese Alston
The Cardinals have landed at least one 5-star recruit out of high school in two consecutive classes. Louisville and Kelsey are trying to make it three straight, and Alston is one of Louisville’s top targets in the 2027 recruiting class.
The 5-star point guard earned over 36 offers, including from major programs that aren’t in the final seven, such as Purdue, Florida State, Illinois, Kansas, Texas, USC, and others. Now, Louisville is battling its in-state rival Kentucky for another elite 5-star point guard, along with powerhouse programs like Tennessee and Houston.
Before this update, Louisville and Wichita State are the two programs that have earned unofficial visits from Alston so far. The recruiting process has recently heated up as this has been a four-team race between Kentucky, LSU, Wichita State, and Louisville, and Tennessee has reportedly made a strong push in recent weeks.
Now it is a seven-team battle, but some believe Louisville is at the front of the pack. On3 Sports Jamie Shaw has logged multiple way-too-early predictions in favor of Louisville landing the 5-star, giving the Cardinals an early lead over the other six programs.
Alston is one of the top recruits in the 2027 recruiting class, as he ranks as high as No. 7 overall and No. 2 among point guards. The 5-star guard is coming off an impressive junior campaign, making the MaxPreps Junior All-American First Team after averaging 22.2 points, 5.3 assists, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.7 steals per game.
The Cardinals just got a major recruiting update from one of Kelsey’s top dream targets in this class. Louisville fans have plenty of reasons to feel optimistic right now, but the Cardinals have to keep making strong pushes, maintain their recent momentum, and secure his commitment over Kentucky and others.
