Louisville basketball just earned its 20th win of the season after the Cardinals defeated Georgia Tech 87-70. Louisville continues to trend in the right direction as the Cards have now won six of their last seven and eight of their last ten.
The Cardinals were once again led by star freshman Mikel Brown Jr., as the superstar guard had a game-high 19 points on 50 percent shooting. Louisville is trending in the right direction as the regular season is coming to an end, and March is quickly just around the corner.
And with the Cardinals eyeing a run and looking to climb in the seedings, Louisville has a huge stretch before it looks at the postseason. When Louisville fans look at the stretch, they have circled three games, but now that it's here, one game still looks significantly easier.
One marque games continues to look easier for Louisville basketball
Louisville still has North Carolina, Clemson, and Miami, and all three are on the road. Entering the season, these three games were circled, and when looking at the standings, Cards fans will see that all three teams are ahead of them in the ACC.
However, the Cards' showdown with the Tigers appears to look much easier than it did last month. Clemson was ranked as high as No. 18 in the nation and was 16-3, but now the Tigers have had a huge skid in the second half of the season, losing four straight and sitting at 20-8.
The Tigers were second in the ACC and looked like they would be one of the conference's contenders, but now they are collapsing right before Louisville is set to take them on, having lost four straight, three of them against unranked teams, including two at home.
When looking at this four game losing stream by the Tigers, Louisville fans will see it started by a home loss to Virginia Tech by 10 points, then a road loss to Duke by 13 points, followed by another road loss but this time to a Wake Forest team who is just 14-13, and just today they lost to Florida State at home.
Louisville fans should feel confident heading into this game as the Tigers are playing some sloppy basketball right now and are clearly beatable. Their losses to Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, and Florida State are not quality losses by any means, and this marquee road game now heavily favors Louisville.
The Cardinals were once given just a 53 percent chance of winning this game, but since the start of this four-game losing streak, that has risen to 57.8 percent, according to ESPN Analytics. This isn’t a game Louisville can just overlook and assume they will win, as Clemson is still a good team, but it certainly appears Louisville is getting the Tigers at the perfect time to earn a huge road conference win.
