Louisville basketball continues to be all-in on the Transfer Portal as the Cardinals remain ranked No. 1 in the nation in team rankings for their Transfer Portal additions. The Cardinals started off with a massive splash, landing the No. 1 overall transfer, Flory Bidunga, and the No. 16 overall transfer Jackson Shelstad.

Louisville's projected 2026-27 lineup is Final Four caliber and Pat Kelsey isn't done

Bidunga is the No. 1 overall transfer and the No. 1 center in the portal. The 5-star transfer is coming off a dominant year in which he won Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year after logging 91 blocks and averaging 2.6 per game. The Cardinals fans made it clear they wanted Pat Kelsey to attack the frontcourt this offseason, and the Cardinals wasted no time and got the best center that entered the portal.

Louisville’s starting lineup is beginning to fill up as the Cards got Adrian Wooley back and added Karter Knox, so now Louisville is attacking its bench. Staying with the frontcourt, Kelsey and Louisville learned they will get a visit later this week from the 7-foot-5 center, Gabe Dynes.

The USC transfer was one of the top rim protectors in Division I basketball in the 2024-25 season at Youngstown State, and now, after one year with the Trojans, he is back in the portal. With Louisville needing some frontcourt depth, it is reported that Kelsey and the Cardinals are in the mix as Louisville is set to host Dynes for an official visit on Thursday, April 23, according to The Field of 68’s Jeff Goodman.

Louisville is in a recruiting battle with some big-time programs, including Xavier, Kentucky, North Carolina State, and Kansas, as all four programs are also scheduled to host Dynes for visits, according to Goodman. Xavier will host the 4-star transfer today, April 21, Kentucky on Wednesday, then Kelsey and Louisville on Thursday, followed by North Carolina State on Friday, and his last stop will be Kansas this weekend on Saturday.

Dynes didn’t get much playing time this past season with the Trojans, logging just 11.9 minutes per game and averaging 2.9 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks per game. However, before USC, he was a dominant rim protector at Youngstown State.

In his sophomore season, he finished No. 2 in Division I basketball in blocks with 104, and ranked No. 3 in  Division I basketball in blocks per game with an eye-popping 3.1. He has 196 total blocks in his three years, including 64 this past season with the Trojans.

The 7-foot-5, 215-pound center is a Kentucky native, from Independence, Ky., and graduated from Simon Kenton High School. Dynes averaged 12.5 points and 9.8 rebounds while shooting nearly 75 percent from the field in his senior year.

The USC transfer now ranks as a 4-star transfer for the second straight offseason, and ranks as high as No. 152 overall and No. 17 among centers. The Cardinals need a backup for Bidunga, and it appears Kelsey is looking to add another dominant rim protector.
