The Louisville Cardinals baseball season didn't necessarily end on a positive note. The Cardinals were on a five-game losing streak until they won the last game of the regular season. Louisville finished the year 35-20 in the regular season with a disappointing 15-15 ACC record.
Dan McDonnell and his Cardinals earned the 10th seed in the 2025 ACC Baseball Championship, meaning they will play against the Pittsburgh Panthers on Tuesday, May 20, at 5 p.m. local time. If the Cardinals can pull off a win on Tuesday, they will move on to play the Duke Blue Devils on Wednesday, May 21, at 5 p.m. local time.
The Cardinals didn't play Pitt or Duke this season. Louisville will try to carry momentum from its 14-9 victory against the Demon Deacons, but the Cardinals will have to play smart, as this year's ACC Baseball Championship is a single-elimination bracket rather than a double-elimination bracket.
Louisville Cardinals eyes historic ACC baseball run to boost NCAA Tournament hopes
The Cardinals have to win an impressive six games to win the 2025 ACC Baseball Championship. They have earned four ACC regular-season conference titles but never won the conference tournament title. The Cards secured two conference titles in 2008 and 2009 when Louisville was still in the Big East.
If the Cardinals can secure some wins, the 2025 ACC Baseball Championship will be a massive resume boost. Louisville will likely earn an at-large bid for the NCAA Tournament, but it is critical for McDonnell's Cardinals to earn wins over Pitt and Duke to feel comfortable. If Louisville can secure those two victories, then they will go head-to-head with Florida State. The Cardinals' two wins will have them sitting pretty ahead of the NCAA Tournament, and if they can upset Florida State once more, then the Cardinals will be a lock for the Big Dance.
Louisville played the Seminoles this season and earned a series victory, winning two of the three games against the No. 2 seed in the ACC Tournament.
