Louisville basketball is just a couple of roster spots away from completing their 2025-26 roster. Head coach Pat Kelsey has assembled one of the nation's best rosters, and now he will look to add the final pieces.

Over the weekend, the Cardinals were trending with the Bowling Green transfer Derrick Butler. The 6-foot-3 point guard averaged 13.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 0.8 steals per game while shooting 34.5 percent from beyond the arc last season. He averaged 2.0 3-pointers per game and scored 20 points or more in five games.

Louisville is now in a heated battle to complete their roster as Ole Miss, Tennessee, Seton Hall, and others are also in contact with Butler.

Louisville basketball's roster search

As Louisville continues to search for the perfect player to fill out its roster, the Cardinals must stay far away from the Miami transfer, Kiree Huie. The power forward has the skills and potential to be a solid role player for some college basketball teams, but at this point in their roster, it doesn't make much sense to try to earn his commitment.

Louisville needs to go after that third-string point guard or a 7-foot center. They don't need another power forward or small forward that will further clog the rotation. Last season with the Hurricanes, Huie scored 22 points in 127 minutes, averaging 1.7 points and 1.4 rebounds per game.

The Cardinals' elite edge rusher was one of four underclassmen rushers listed by Pro Football Focus' watch list for the 2026 NFL Draft.

PFF released a list highlighting the underclassmen and serving as a watch list for the 2026 NFL Draft across every position. Green was the only Cardinal to earn a spot on the list after his impressive 2024 season. The elite rusher earned 12 total tackles, 3.5 tackles for a loss, and 1.0 sacks.
