Louisville basketball fans are counting down the days until tipoff, as the fall months are quickly approaching, which means college basketball isn’t as far away as some may think. The Cardinals are expected to be one of the top teams in the nation this upcoming season. Pat Kelsey put together one of the most expensive rosters in college basketball, landing the No. 1 Transfer Portal class after earning commitments from Flory Bidunga, Jackson Shelstad, and others.
The Cardinals' roster looks completely different from this past season. Kelsey had to replace nine key players from the 2025-26 season, including all five starters and four notable leading scorers: Mikel Brown Jr., Ryan Conwell, Isaac McKneely, and J’Vonne Hadley.
Now, the Cardinals' new roster is gearing up for the 2026-27 season, and new associate head coach Sean Dixon revealed that Adrian Wooley is the Cardinal this offseason who is stepping up and leading by example.

On top of Louisville having to replace nine players, Kelsey also lost three coaches. The most recent one was Peyton Siva to St. John’s, but Kelsey also lost assistant coach Thomas Carr to Indiana. Dixon is one of Kelsey’s new coaches, his associate head coach, who comes over from Clemson.
Dixon was a big part of Louisville’s Cardinal Commitment: Season 3, Episode 2, and in the most recent episode, he made it clear that Louisville is seeing Wooley step up as the team leader.
“I think AD has been tremendous,” stated Dixon on Wooley. “He is a guy that sets the standard, that is the standard every single day. So, it is clear to see that he is a leader by example.”
A lot of Cardinals fans and college basketball insiders have high expectations for Wooley, including Field of 68’s Rob Dauster. The insider stated he believes Wooley has a chance to be the Cardinals' leading scorer.
Wooley is coming off his first year with Louisville after transferring to the Cards as a 5-star transfer from Kennesaw State. He ranked No. 9 overall and No. 2 among combo guards in the Transfer Portal, and made an immediate impact with Louisville.
Making a jump from Kennesaw State to the ACC will have some growing pains, but starting in 16 games, Wooley showed he has the potential to be a big-time star for Louisville. He averaged 8.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 0.7 steals per game and shot 45 percent from the field and 35 percent from downtown.
With nine players from this program out, Louisville needed someone to step up and lead by example, and Dixon reveals that Wooley is perfect for the role.
“He is the one guy that understands the expectations and what it takes to succeed here on a daily basis,” stated Dixon on Wooley.
Louisville fans are excited to watch this Cardinals team and to see Wooley in his second year with UofL. The Cardinals have a whole new team, but having just one player like Wooley who can get Kelsey’s message across and understands the system is crucial.
