Louisville fans split over blaming Miller Moss or Jeff Brohm for embarrassing loss to Cal

Louisville's chances of making the College Football Playoff are waning after its Week 11 loss to Cal and Cardinals fans are fed up.

Jeff Brohm has a 4-2 record all-time against top-five opponents, including a win over Miami this season. However, Brohm has also authored two frustrating losses this season, which could cost Louisville a spot in the ACC Title Game and the College Football Playoff.

On a day that Virginia, which handed Louisville its first loss of the year, suffered its first ACC loss of the season, Louisville squandered the opportunity by falling to Cal, 29-26 in overtime at L&N Stadium. Now, Louisville is buried in sixth-place in the conference standings, behind Georgia Tech, Virginia, SMU, Pitt, and even 5-4 Duke, which only has one conference win to its name.

Louisville ripped the ACC away from Miami with that Friday night upset victory, but now it has served it up on a silver platter for that five-team group to fight over through the final three weeks of the season. So, who is to blame for that disaster and Saturday night’s upset loss? Well, Cardinals fans are split.

Many are finished with USC transfer quarterback Miller Moss, whom Lincoln Riley benched in the final weeks of last season because of his struggles to navigate pressure and push the ball downfield without turning it over. Others would rather point the finger at the head coach who brought him to Louisville and continues to run him out there week after week.

Louisville fans call for Jeff Brohm to bench Miller Moss

Moss finished the game 20-for-38 for 203 yards and one interception. The redshirt senior was thoroughly outplayed by Cal true freshman Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele and squandered a chance to set up the game-winning field goal at the end of regulation by taking a terrible sack, his second of the night.

With Louisville likely eliminated from CFP contention with this loss, there are plenty of fans who would like to see Moss benched for the second-straight season, by another of the sport’s greatest QB developers. If Riley couldn’t get high-level QB play out of Moss last season, it’s hard to imagine why Brohm was so convinced he could.

Brohm is a great play-caller and knows how to slay a giant, but Louisville fans are already growing frustrated with their native son, and some might even be willing to send him to Penn State, where he has seemingly emerged as the top candidate.

Louisville fans have plenty of frustration to let out after that loss, so there might be enough blame to go around.
