The Louisville Cardinals lost four of their top five tight ends from last season, including two players, to the transfer portal. Louisville football had a few positions they had to address in the spring transfer portal, and the one glaring area was the tight end room.
The Cardinals have already added some depth as they received commitments from a couple of tight ends. CJ Jacobsen will transfer in from Utah, and Jacob Stewart will transfer in from San Jose State. The Cards' nation was thrilled to see Jeff Brohm and his staff working overtime in this thin, tight end room, and while some thought they might be done, it appears Louisville is one step closer to landing one of their most significant prospect yet from the transfer portal.
Pete Nakos of On3 Sports reported late Monday night that the Cardinals will land a visit from the No. 15 tight end to enter the transfer portal. The former 4-star recruit would be a great addition to the Louisville tight end room and would be a significant boost to the offense.
Louisville football receives massive update from former 4-star Oklahoma TE
Davon Mitchell announced he was transferring from the Oklahoma Sooners after his true freshman season. Mitchell didn't see any action in his freshman season with the Sooners, making it a glaring reason to enter the portal.
His high school resume is why he is a massive prospect for the Cardinals as he was a unanimous 4-star recruit out California and was ranked as a consensous top 20 recruit out of California and as high as the No. 5 recruit out of the state by ESPN.
He was ranked as high as the No. 56 prospect in the class of 2024 and was a consensus top 170 recruit by all major recruiting websites. He was a consensus top 11 tight end in the nation, and ESPN put him as high as the No. 3 player in the skilled position.
Oklahoma tight end Davon Mitchell will visit Louisville on Tuesday, a source tells @On3sports.

The former Under Armour All-American earned 33 catches for 731 yards and nine receiving touchdowns in 2022 and would end up committing to the Sooners over big-time programs like Alabama, Georgia, Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Texas, and others. He received a total of 33 offers, making him a top-recruited player in the nation.
