As it stands, Louisville is the slight favorite entering the game, at 1.5 points, according to FanDuel. The Cards have never defeated SMU, going 0-4 in program history and 0-2 since SMU joined the ACC, but they hope to change that this Saturday at L&N Stadium.

The first injury report was released last night, and the Cardinals got some encouraging news about their running back game.

Keyjuan Brown is not on Louisville's first injury report vs SMU

The Cardinals' star running back, Keyjuan Brown, was injured in Week 2 against Villanova, forcing him to leave the game and not return in the second half. Brown finished with one carry for 12 yards. Louisville fans don’t have to worry about his status this weekend, as Brown was listed on the injury report, which strongly suggests he's good to go and available for Jeff Brohm.

Brown is a crucial part of this Cardinal offense. Entering the season, Louisville had a top-five running back in the country, as Keyjuan and Isaac Brown had extremely high expectations. Keyjuan took a massive leap last year, averaging 7.3 yards per carry on 704 yards. In his final five games, Brown rushed for 94 yards or more, including his final three games where he rushed for 136, 135, and 112 yards.

So far in 2026, Brown has rushed for 68 yards, including Week 1, when he rushed seven times for 56 yards against No. 9 Ole Miss.

Brohm gave an encouraging injury update earlier this week, hinting that his star running back will be available and saying he “anticipates” him playing.

“I think, Keyjuan, we are hopeful he will be back for this Saturday’s game,” stated Brohm on Brown. “I am hopeful that will happen, and I will anticipate that it will happen.”

So far, through two games, this Cardinals offense has looked dominant. Lincoln Kienholz has this offense buzzing with excitement, but now they have another major test, and if Louisville wants to make the ACC Championship game, they will likely have to win this game.

Having Brown this weekend is a major update for the Cardinals as they prepare for SMU. Isaac has had a slow start to the season, so having depth at this position is crucial, and Cardinals fans saw that in Week 1 when Keyjuan rushed for 56 yards.
