Louisville football gets its first crushing blow of the 2025 season as Jeff Brohm gave a devastating update on star linebacker Stanquan Clark earlier this morning.

Clark went down in the fourth quarter against James Madison with an apparent lower-body injury. Clark got carted off the field with a towel over his head and was devastated by the injury, and fans and the program feared the worst. After the game, Brohm confirmed he will be out for "several games," but he just updated his injury report, and it was exactly what Louisville fans did not want to hear.

Entering the 2025 season, Louisville had two stars on the defensive side of the ball, and Clark was one of them. The 6-foot-3 235 235-pound linebacker is a dominant force on the field who is crucial for Louisville's defense as he stacks up tackles weekly, and is a vocal leader on the team.

Well, it appears Clark isn't just going to be out for "several games" but he, in fact, will most likely be out for the remainder of the Cardinals' 2025 season, per Brohm.

"Unfortunately, Stanquan had lower leg surgery," Brohm stated on Monday morning at his weekly press conference. "He is more than likely out for the year. Could he come back late in the process, possibly?"

Louisville now must turn to former 5-star TJ Capers, as the redshirt sophomore is the next man up in the rotation. Capers will have big shoes to fill as Clark finished the 2024 season second on the team in tackles with an impressive 76 total tackles. Clark earned All-ACC honors and was a key defender for this Louisville defense.

Louisville's defense takes a massive blow this morning, and it is going to be hard to replace a player like Clark. Capers stated he was excited for "bigger roles" this upcoming season, and it appears he is getting the nod to start much sooner than expected.

Louisville takes on Bowling Green this Saturday at noon local time from L&N Stadium. The Cardinals should get some good reps against the Falcons and have a solid game to adjust before they take on Pitt in Week 5.
