Louisville football is gearing up for the 2026 season, and Jeff Brohm has this group ready to compete for an ACC Title. A lot of the attention, of course, is going to Miami, but two other teams that have College Football Playoff potential are the Cardinals and SMU.
While Louisville was unranked in the 2026 preseason Coaches Poll, Joel Klatt recently gave the Cardinals the flowers they deserve. The college football insider and announcer ranked his preseason top 25, and the Cardinals not only were in his top 25 but were in his top 20.
Joel Klatt gives Louisville football a lot of praise
The Cardinals have won 9 or more games in all three seasons under Brohm, and many believe this is the season they can once again win at least 10 and get back to the ACC Championship Game. Brohm had a top-five Transfer Portal class, brought back key players and Preseason All-Americans in Isaac Brown and Clev Lubin, and now Klatt is making sure everyone knows Louisville is ready to compete.
“Louisville is at 19,” Klatt stated in a recent show. “I like Louisville a lot. I like Jeff Brohm a lot—heck of a coach. He has done a great job everywhere he has been. He has done a great job at Louisville. Three straight seasons with at least nine wins.”
The Cardinals come in ranked No. 19 in his preseason rankings, which is exactly what Louisville fans want to hear. The Cards' offense has a chance to be something special this upcoming season, and Klatt made it clear he likes this group a lot.
“He (Brohm) is a terrific quarterback coach, and now he brings in a transfer from Ohio State, Lincoln Kienholz, and we will see how that goes,” stated Klatt. “I think they have an absolute star at running back in Isaac Brown. They brought in a top 15 portal class to fill some shoes. I don't think it's a conference that's overly difficult.”
Louisville doesn’t have to play Miami, Clemson, or Virginia this upcoming season, and after Week 3, Louisville fans will truly know where they stand. The Cardinals are the third ACC team ranked, with Miami at No. 4 and SMU right ahead at No. 18.
Klatt gives his praise to Brohm and Louisville, and now its on the Cardinals to set the tone and stun Ole Miss in Week 1.
