Louisville football's 2025 season is under 60 days away, but Jeff Brohm is still working on his roster. The Cardinals needed to add some depth to their secondary, and after a visit to the Cardinals last month, New Mexico's transfer Nigel Williams officially committed to the Cardinals Thursday afternoon, per Matt Zenitz.
The Cardinals lost four of their top five defensive backs from last season, and entering the 2025 season, the main area of concern is their secondary. While they saw some players step up in the Spring Game, there is nothing wrong with adding some depth, and Williams is an excellent addition to this inexperienced secondary.

Williams stands tall at 5-foot-11, 194 pounds and is coming off a big-time season with the Lobos. The defensive back had his best season last year as he logged 58 tackles, including 36 solo tackles, and added two pass breakups and a forced fumble.

The senior defensive back initially committed to Northwestern but didn't see much playing time, which ultimately led him to transfer to New Mexico. Now, he will look to be a crucial addition to Brohm's defense and carry that momentum from last year's impressive season.
Williams will now join Jabari Mack, Rodney Johnson Jr., Corey Gordon Jr., JoJo Evans, and more in the secondary unit. The Cardinals are hopeful that this group can gel together, but the addition of Williams gives the fans and coaching staff more confidence heading into Week 1 against Eastern Kentucky on August 30.
