Louisville football's 2026 class continues to improve as the Cardinals land their 14th commitment Friday afternoon. Jeff Brohm and his Louisville Cardinals learned that star running back Lekhy Thompkins committed to the Cardinals, per his social media.

The 3-star running back is ranked as the No. 992 recruit in the nation, the 59th best running back, and the No. 31 prospect out of Tennessee. This under-the-radar back will join an already stacked running back room as the Cardinals have already earned a commitment from 4-star Evan Hampton, their second-highest-ranked commit in the 2026 class.

Louisville ended up earning Thompkins' commitment over Memphis and Minnesota, as he dropped his list of schools to just three earlier this month.

The 6-foot-1, 227-pound running back secured 892 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns last season in his junior campaign. The newest Cardinal has rushed for 3,823 yards and 51 touchdowns in his high school career so far and has showcased he can be a receiver as well, as he secured 47 catches for 661 receiving yards and seven receiving touchdowns.

Thompkins has also shown some skill on the defensive side as he has tallied 45 tackles, including 10.5 tackles for a loss and two sacks. He would receive 12 offers through his first three years of high school, but committed to Brohm and his Cardinals over West Virginia, Virginia Tech, and others.

The Cardinals' 14 commitments have earned high praise from national media, as their 2026 class is a consensus top 25 class in the nation. On3 Sports ranks Louisville's 2026 commits as the 22nd-best class, while 247Sports sees a little bit more in their class, which is ranked as high as the 16th-best class in the country.
