Louisville football has been crushing the NCAA Transfer Portal so far. The Cardinals have received 14 commitments so far, including eight on the same day. Entering the offseason, Louisville knew it had a lot of work to do, but the Cardinals reportedly received an increase in NIL money, and Jeff Brohm and Vince Marrow have been on an absolute hot streak.

With Louisville addressing the trenches early and landing its QB1 in Lincoln Kienholz, the undeniable No. 1 position in need at the moment is the wide receiver position. Louisville lost six of its top seven wide receivers, including its star Chris Bell, who has been one of Louisville’s top wide receivers the past two seasons.

The Cardinals have been linked to multiple wide receivers, but one was recently removed from their list. Elite 4-star wide receiver Jayce Brown was scheduled to visit Louisville, but the former Kansas State wide receiver committed to Louisville, forcing the Cardinals back to the drawing board. Well, the Cardinals were able to quickly replace Brown with an even better wide receiver target, Tre Richardson.

Louisville football trending with an elite 4-star transfer WR

Richardson is regarded as one of the best prospects in the portal after his lone season with Vanderbilt. The 4-star wide receiver is back in the portal after spending his first two seasons in JUCO, playing for Washburn University his sophomore season and Hutchinson Community College his freshman season. Now, he is regarded as a top transfer after his breakout season with Vanderbilt, and the Cardinals are in an early battle for the 4-star wide receiver.

Louisville is one of many teams to earn a visit, as Texas, Georgia, and Kansas State are also receiving visits. Kirby Smart and Georgia were the first team to earn a visit, and now it is reported that Louisville will be next, followed by Texas, then Kansas State.

Richardson is an elite wide receiver who continues to impress the nation throughout his college career. After earning first-team NJCAA All-American honors his freshman season after logging 52 catches for 983 yards and 11 touchdowns, he is now one of the top receivers in the portal. He earned 46 receptions for 806 yards and seven touchdowns for Vandy last season, leading the Commodores in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns.

This won’t be an easy battle for Jeff Brohm and Vince Marrow as Richardson ranks No. 53 in the portal and is the No. 11 wide receiver. However, the duo of Brohm and Marrow has exceeded expectations early in this offseason, and the Cardinals are hoping to get a commitment from Richardson after their visit and avoid him traveling to Texas and Kansas State.

With Louisville in dire need of an WR1 and missing out on Brown and Wyatt Young early on this portal season, Richardson emerges as one of their top targets.
