Louisville football needs a quarterback for the 2026 season, and while it is a hot topic for the fanbase, the best route for Jeff Brohm and the Cardinals is the Transfer Portal. The Miller Moss experiment didn’t work the way the fans and the program wanted it to, and now that he is no longer eligible, Brohm must hit the portal for the fourth straight season.

There have already been a good number of elite quarterbacks who have entered the portal, but just this morning, the dream player did, and Brohm has to at least give him a call. Florida star quarterback DJ Lagway confirmed on his social media that he will enter the portal, making him immediatley Louisville’s dream target.

Louisville must go after DJ Lagway in the Transfer Portal

Lagway is going to be immediatley one of the top targets in the nation for elite SEC, Big 10, and ACC programs. The former Florida quarterback will be a junior next season and is coming off a somewhat underwhelming season after throwing 14 interceptions.

This is one reason he might fit right in at Louisville. He could learn a lot from Brohm, the quarterback whisperer, and Brohm could try to develop him to match the hype around his name. It won’t be easy for Louisville, but the Cardinals have to try to contact him.

Lagway threw 2,264 yards last season, with 16 touchdowns and a 62.5 completion percentage. In his two collegiate seasons, he has thrown for a combined 4,179 yards, 28 touchdowns, 23 interceptions, and a 62.0 completion percentage. So he has an interception concern, but with the right coaching staff, he has the potential to be one of the top quarterbacks in the nation next season.

The 20-year-old was a former unanimous 5-star recruit and was ranked as the No. 3 player in the nation and the No. 1 quarterback in the 2024 recruiting class. It is reported that Brohm will likely receive more NIL money in his extension, so when a quarterback with his experience and skill enters the portal, there is absolutely no reason Louisville shouldn’t go after him.
