Louisville football fans are getting more and more excited as their Cardinals are now officially less than two weeks away from taking the field for the first time in 2026. Week 0 is here, and Louisville is scheduled to take on Ole Miss in Week 1 on September 6.
As the Cardinals fans patiently wait the next 13 days for the massive showdown, Louisville fans may want to turn their attention to the future Cardinals. Many high schools have played their first game of the year, including multiple Cardinals commits.
One in-state commitment that really turned heads was the Cardinals' 2027 quarterback commitment, Dre’Mail Carothers.
Dre’Mail Carothers had a monster first game
Jeff Brohm is known to have an eye for an underrated quarterback, and he might have found a true star with this 3-star. Brohm has earned the nickname “the quarterback whisperer” in his three years at Louisville, and Louisville fans are excited to watch Carothers develop and shine in Brohm’s system.
The 3-star in-state commitment played his first game of the season, and while Owensboro Catholic High School lost, the future Cardinal put on a dominant performance. Carothers finished the game throwing 25-of-41 with an impressive 395 passing yards and three touchdowns.

The Cardinals fans are excited about this 3-star recruit, as he has tremendous upside, which showed over the weekend. Multiple Division I programs recruited Carothers, including an ACC school in North Carolina. Also in the mix for the 3-star was Oregon State, USF, and others.
Louisville had a 4-star quarterback commitment in Jack Sorgi, but the 4-star flipped to Wisconsin. Brohm then quickly found his 2027 QB in Carothers, as the Cardinals earned his commitment on June 18. Carothers ranks as high as No. 614 in the 2027 recruiting class, No. 36 among quarterbacks, and No. 9 among recruits out of Kentucky. The Louisville commit is the top-ranked quarterback from Kentucky in the 2027 recruiting class.
Last year, Carothers was dominant for Owensboro Catholic High School, throwing for 4,022 passing yards, which led the state of Kentucky. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound quarterback also added 49 passing touchdowns while completing 67.2 percent of his passes.
Louisville’s 2027 recruiting class currently has 16 commitments, including multiple 4-stars like Ja’Hyde Brown, who also went viral for his 2026 debut with Christian Academy of Louisville. The Cardinals' 2027 recruiting class ranks as high as No. 31 in the nation.
