The Transfer Portal will open on January 2 and remain open until January 16. During that time, programs are expected to hear many names enter the portal. Jeff Brohm and Louisville football are expected to be quite active this portal season, after bringing in 29 players last year.

Now, with Louisville fans hoping the Cards can give Brohm an extension and a little NIL money, they hope the Cards can get some elite players on both sides of the ball. With just three weeks until the portal opens, Louisville has only had one player enter the portal so far in redshirt sophomore Daeh McCullough.

Well, that changed yesterday, as the Cards learned that their second player will enter the transfer portal. The Cards will lose more depth in the defensive back unit as Kentucky native Destin Cheirs announced on social media that he will enter the transfer portal.

Louisville football loses second DB to the Transfer Portal

Cheirs is from Madisonville, Ky., where he committed to Louisville back in 2023. He hasn’t seen much action during his tenure with the Cardinals, as he recorded just three tackles in his time with Louisville, but after being redshirted, he will still have two years of eligibility.

Now, he will try to find a new home, and Louisville lost two players from a defensive back room that is already going to be pretty thin. Now, these two players they lost weren’t expected to have a role next season, so the fans aren’t heartbroken over the news, but they are losing depth in a position group that was already slim to begin with.

Louisville lost four of its top five defensive backs after 2024, and now, after the 2025 season, they are right back in a similar situation. The fans want Brohm and company to go out and get around four to five players in this position from the portal, and players like Edwin Joseph from Florida State and Scooter Jackson from UCLA are top targets after they entered the portal.

This is going to be another crucial offseason for Brohm, and if they want to be an ACC Title contender, he has to go get support in his secondary again.
